The NEW 1984 Quadrifoglio

10 October, 2021

Have you already got used to the graphics and concept of the new 1980s-style Quadrifoglio?

We are still having fun browsing through the magazines kept over the years by Pietro Cozzi and now archived in our Cozzi.Lab: the immersion in the eighties continues!

Now let us leaf through the issue of1984, a year that even became the title of George Orwell's most famous novel (written in 1948) to generically indicate a moment in the still distant future.

And in 1984, the future is indeed approaching: no Big Brother (not yet, at least), but we are still talking about the year the first Apple Macintosh was born.

The journey continues: follow us!

"The radiator grille also needs a bit of a facelift", comments on the Bertone-designed Alfa 90.

"we will do it with a light hand, i.e. giving fantasy and image predominant roles'.

ettore massacesi, talking about the rebirth of il quadrifoglio".

ZERO TO 90

Finally, an issue of the new Quadrifoglio magazine opens with an Alfa: the Alfa 90, to be precise, the flagship model designed by Bertone and proudly presented to Il Quadrifoglio readers.

The article by director Ettore Massacesi not only goes into technical detail, but also gives an insight into the backstage work of Alfa 90 staff:

"The radiator grille also needs a bit of work".

"The bumper sticks out too little from the rest of the bodywork".

"The front end may need to be modified a little bit".

Fragments of conversation shared with enthusiasts, capable of making Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili even more human.

PIEDMONT ON THE TABLE

Do readers want lifestyle columns?

And the lifestyle is served! In the 1984 issue, Alfisti are ideally transported to Piedmont, a land of typical dishes and unique delicacies, certainly appreciated by those who know how to enjoy life.

A journey through Doc and Docg wines, traditional recipes - such as vitello tonnato - and delicacies such as Alba truffles.

The photographs of the traditional dishes are marvellous when seen from today's perspective - in true 1980s style!

ONE HOUSE LEADS TO ANOTHER

Also in the field of curiosities - lifestyle and gossip - is the article dedicated to the exchange of houses between VIPs.

Noteworthy arethe drawings by Giuliano, Smemoranda's historic cartoonist and one of the founders of the satirical magazine Il Male, and the photo portraits of the most famous celebrities of the time who practised house swapping: racing driver Didier Pironi, British trade unionist Richard Scargill, Jane Birkin and Robert Redford.

THE FLYING SAUCER

More Alfa in the magazine dedicated to alfisti.

The closing article of the 1984 issue celebrates the Disco Volante, a racing car with a rounded, futuristic line.

The prototype was presented in 1952, at a time when Italy was still recovering from the trauma of the war: petrol cost 138 lire a litre, "almost two thousand lire today" says the article.

It was designed by engineer Orazio Satta Puliga, with the aim of making it take part in races in the Sport category, and it was designed by Carrozzeria Touring.
