Una distesa infinita, piatta e abbagliante,\u00a0dove il sale \u00e8 cos\u00ec compresso da sembrare marmo. Un orizzonte che si perde nel nulla in quello che\u00a0una volta era un lago.<\/p>\n<p>Per chilometri e chilometri <strong>non c\u2019\u00e8 altro che il silenzio<\/strong>, il bianco accecante e\u00a0in lontananza il rombo dei motori. \u00c8 qui che gli uomini, e le macchine, vengono per misurare i\u00a0propri limiti. Un luogo dove l\u2019assenza di riferimenti crea la tela perfetta per imprese che superano la\u00a0logica.<\/p>\n<p>E in quel paesaggio lunare, nell\u2019autunno del 1992,<strong> l\u2019Alfa Romeo 155 Q4 non era solo una\u00a0macchina<\/strong>. Era la dimostrazione che un\u2019auto da turismo, una normale berlina, poteva diventare qualcosa di pi\u00f9. Ogni anno, in autunno, centinaia di uomini si\u00a0danno appuntamento con mezzi di ogni genere, uniti da una sola ossessione: la velocit\u00e0. La linea\u00a0nera tracciata sul sale guida i concorrenti per otto chilometri. Si parte piano, il motore sale, il\u00a0volante trema. L\u2019auto scivola sulla crosta sottile del lago salato, mentre il vento soffia laterale come\u00a0un nemico invisibile. Qui non si frena, non si corregge di scatto: bisogna restare dritti, con nervi\u00a0saldi e cuore forte. In mezzo a questo teatro di follia e coraggio, la 155 Q4 \u00e8 guardata con curiosit\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p>Qualcuno si inginocchia sul sale per sbirciare sotto la carrozzeria, altri chiedono di aprire il cofano.\u00a0<strong>\u00c8 una berlina di serie? Ma per affrontare Bonneville i tecnici Alfa Corse ad Arese in concerto con quelli Abarth\u00a0l\u2019hanno preparata veramente bene con il tocco finale degli uomini dell\u2019Ufficio Tecnico che il\u00a0Gruppo Fiat aveva a Detroit. Avevano creato un mostro come il <strong>Dottor Jekyll e Mr. Hyde<\/strong>: dai 190\u00a0cavalli di serie ai 360, che le facevano raggiungere i 300 orari \u2013 precisamente i 297,333 &#8211; contro i\u00a0225 della versione di serie. Un bel salto e un bel impegno per l\u2019intera struttura.<\/p>\n<p>Con un coefficiente aerodinamico di 0,29 e la trazione integrale, rappresentava il punto d\u2019incontro\u00a0ideale tra efficienza e stabilit\u00e0. \u00ab<em>Era la piattaforma perfetta per scaricare a terra tutta la potenza che\u00a0volevamo tirare fuori dal suo due litri turb0<\/em>\u00bb, <strong>raccontarono i tecnici dell\u2019Abarth<\/strong>, che curarono la\u00a0preparazione meccanica. Solo dopo ore di test e regolazioni, la vettura fu pronta\u00a0per la sfida americana. A Bonneville, <strong>le regole sono chiare e inflessibili<\/strong>. La 155 venne iscritta nella\u00a0classe G\/PS e il regolamento vietava qualsiasi intervento aerodinamico non previsto dal listino\u00a0ufficiale, ma l\u2019Alfa poteva contare su due elementi preziosi: <strong>il piccolo labbro anteriore e l\u2019alettone\u00a0posteriore<\/strong>, entrambi regolarmente disponibili come optional di serie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pi\u00f9 libera invece la mano dei tecnici sull\u2019assetto. Le sospensioni furono abbassate di 50 millimetri e\u00a0irrigidite, ottenendo un incremento dell\u2019efficienza aerodinamica stimato in 0,03 punti di Cx. Ma il\u00a0vero traguardo fu l\u2019eliminazione totale della portanza: <strong>la 155 Q4 divenne una macchina incollata al\u00a0suolo<\/strong>, stabile e precisa sui cristalli di sale anche oltre i 250 km\/h.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Il cuore dell\u2019impresa, naturalmente, batteva sotto il cofano. Il quattro cilindri bialbero di 1995 cc,\u00a0gi\u00e0 collaudato sulla Lancia Delta Integrale, venne profondamente rivisto dall\u2019Abarth. Il piccolo\u00a0turbo Garrett T25 lasci\u00f2 il posto a un possente TB 3-85, capace di spingere la pressione di\u00a0sovralimentazione fino a 1,2 bar. L\u2019intercooler fu sostituito con uno pi\u00f9 grande, derivato dalle Delta\u00a0Evoluzione da rally, e dotato di un ingegnoso sistema di spruzzatori d\u2019acqua per migliorare lo\u00a0scambio termico. Il rapporto di compressione scese a 7,75:1, consentendo\u00a0di gestire meglio la maggiore quantit\u00e0 d\u2019aria introdotta nei cilindri.\u00a0Il risultato? Una potenza di circa 360 cavalli, costante tra i 6000 e i 6500 giri. Numeri che richiesero\u00a0anche una nuova quinta marcia, pi\u00f9 lunga di quella originale: la coppia conica proveniva dal\u00a0cambio della 164 TD, perfetta per spingere la berlina verso i 300 l\u2019ora.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">L\u2019auto conservava ruote e freni di serie, ma con dettagli curati nei minimi particolari: i bulloni\u00a0lasciarono spazio a prigionieri con dadi di sicurezza, e i cerchi furono coperti dai tipici dischi in\u00a0alluminio tornito per ridurre le turbolenze.
