Arna, the almond-eyed Alfa. Special MuseumCity 2024

January 30, 2024

The Arna, the almond-eyed Alfa, will be the star of the next event. A special opening scheduled for March 3. Find out how to attend.

As those who follow our Museum know very well, one of the things we love most is to network with other museums like ours and with all the realities that deal with history, design and Culture with a capital C. In short, with this premise could we possibly miss the annual appointment with Milano MuseoCity?

Let's start by telling you what day you need to mark in your diary, then we'll tell you more: Sunday, March 3, starting at 3 p.m.

But what is Milan Museum City?

Milano MuseoCity is a 5-day event, this year from March 1 to 5, involving more than 100 Milanese cultural institutions. A much-awaited event now in its eighth edition, it is a significant opportunity to tell the story of the city and its cultural richness, highlighting the lesser-known and perhaps even unheard of elements.

Like every year, for 2024 the project focuses on a specific theme. "Worlds in Milan" is the title that unites the planned initiatives. The goal for us museums will be to highlight our openness to the outside world and to others, our sensitivity to new cultural influences, and the stories, spaces, times and places where exchanges of ideas, projects and cultures take place.

We are lucky: Alfa Romeo is able to open up so many worlds for us indeed! Among all of them we have chosen the East. In fact, our event will be titled "Arna, the almond-eyed Alfa. Special Museocity 2024" and will tell the story of the union between two famous car manufacturers: the Italian Alfa Romeo and the Japanese Nissan. That was really an unusual collaboration for those years. Let's see it together.

Do you know the history of the Arna?

In the 1980s, the two giants decided to join forces to create a car that had the best of both companies. Thus was born the Alfa Romeo Arna, whose name is an acronym for "Alfa Romeo Nissan Autovehicle." The car was produced between 1983 and 1987.

The goal was to combine Italian elegance with Japanese reliability. However, the Arna did not achieve the success it had hoped for in the market, partly because of some critical issues regarding performance and build quality.

Nevertheless, the story of the Alfa Romeo Arna is an interesting chapter in the evolution of the Italian automotive industry, if only because it highlights collaborative efforts between brands from different parts of the world.
