The discovery of a hidden treasure in the Museum

January 30, 2024

Pietro Cozzi "put there" a lot of items. Elisabetta found lots of unpublished material stored in a closet that had been closed for years. Find out what it contained.

This article is not like any other, we preface it.

It is a tribute, one of the first and certainly not the last, to the person who made possible the birth and development of the Museum-Peter Cozzi. With his motto, "Put it there" began the whole long journey that from the 1950s onwards saw the Alfa Romeo collection grow at the same time as the collection of all the advertising, photographic and documentary material that was being produced and which, even today, bears witness to the history of automotive design and production of the time.

We know: our cars, a bit like Peter, were and always are the real stars. But there was and always will be a hidden, lesser-known Peter whom we want to celebrate today: the Peter who kept just about everything, including receipts and tickets.

We are doing this today because, just in these days, we found at the Museum a small part of that "everything." A hidden treasure, which we want to share with you.

The treasure closet

The treasure Elizabeth found was hidden in a closet, who knows how long ago.

The cabinet owned by Pietro contained many objects, documents, photographs, newspaper articles, brochures, and flyers related not only to the history of Alfa Romeo, but more importantly to the history of the Museum itself and the Cozzi family.

This is unpublished material: here are Elizabeth's words after the discovery.

"It was time to take courage and start sorting out Peter's closets, his office, those somewhat secret spaces where I never went. And so we found a real treasure, still to be discovered in detail, but it is as of now clear to be of the most important historical value for the museum and the history it represents."

All materials found in the hidden closet.

All the material found will be checked and taken to the Cozzi.Lab, the archive that, as you know, already contains so many historical objects and documents.

The cataloguing work will then be up to Marta Bianchi, our archivist:

"the material we found, after it has been properly cataloged and entered into the database, will enter the Cozzi.Lab archive in the coming months. I can anticipate that these are documents, photographs, brochures, posters of extraordinary historical interest. In particular, we have found an entire documentary file dedicated to the inauguration of the Viale Toselli headquarters, truly an important find to witness the company's history. "

We are so excited and can't wait to hear more. How about you?
