Achille Varzi, what a spectacle of an event!

June 24, a date to celebrate.

June 22, 2023

June 24 is an important date for two reasons:Alfa Romeo's birthday and International Women Behind the Wheel Day.

June 24 is a date to mark on the calendar. Do you know why?

Yes, if you are an Alfista of course you know that it is Alfa Romeo's birthday but you may not know thatwe also celebrate International Women Behind the Wheel Day.

The anniversary was established by the Women's World Car of the Year committee of 50 female automotive journalists because on that day in 2018 Saudi Arabia lifted its driving ban on women. Despite the significant contribution of women in car purchases, the automotive industry has not yet done enough to target them as a market audience. The Women's World Car of the Year award, given by the jury of female journalists, does not honor the best car for women, but the best car according to women themselves, and was created to highlight the presence of women in an industry still perceived as male.

To commemorate this important day, the Museum has decided to anticipate a shot from the second edition of the photo project "Women and Motors. Just Joys," where women will be portrayed behind the wheel, again by the talented photographer Camilla Albertini.

Pictured above is a collage depicting all the photos from the first edition of the photo project "Women and Motors? Just Joys."

Instead, the cover photo features Teresa Alaniz, Designer and creator of the Emotion-Driven Innovation method from NiEW, a consulting firm supporting this second edition. Thank you NiEW!

With NiEW on March 8, we also conducted an interesting in-depth talk dedicated to women in the automotive industry., watch it here and discover extraordinary stories of great female professionals:

The other very important reason why we absolutely must celebrate June 24 is, of course, Alfa Romeo's birthday! The birth of our beloved brand dates back to 1910, in the city of Milan.

Above we have collected some vintage posters and posters. Tracing the history of the brand through images brings back so many cherished memories. Do you too?

Below Elisabetta Cozzi and Laura Lavizzari wanted to make a special wish.

From all of us, "Happy Birthday, Alfa Romeo!"
